Cancer Support

On Friday September 30th we are holding a Macmillan Coffee morning open to the public. We are also starting a new General Cancer Support Group on the back of this. The group is open to anyone affected by cancer and is an informal setting for people to meet others locally who have had similar experiences and to talk. The Coffee morning on the 30th September is an opportunity for anyone to come along (general community, people affected by cancer, staff) and enjoy some coffee/cake whilst socialising and exploring the Support Centre here at the North Norfolk Macmillan Centre and other services available.

For the subsequent Cancer Support Group meetings, we do kindly ask that anyone interested in attending please register their interest with the Support Centre prior to attending so that we have an idea on numbers please and can facilitate everyone. Please find attached a poster for the support group and one for the Coffee Morning on the 30th September.

In October we will also be establishing our first HOPE course here at the N. Norfolk Support Centre. How to Overcome Problems Effectively (HOPE) is a 6 week course aimed at patients who have finished their cancer journey or are living with cancer to help them to rediscover inner strengths to help them cope emotionally, psychologically and practically.

The course will commence on the 13th October and run for 6 consecutive weeks, each session lasting 2 ½ hours. The sessions are delivered by trained HOPE facilitators who are either healthcare professionals or trained volunteers who have had a cancer experience.

The HOPE course can help people to feel less isolated and increase ability to handle stressful situations. It will also help people to explore relaxation techniques and other skills to help manage life after cancer treatment. For more information please see; Help to Overcome Problems Effectively (learnzone.org.uk). https://learnzone.org.uk/courses/course.php?id=111. Please find the poster attached.

We also provide a bereavement support session which is delivered by a local qualified Grief Recovery Specialist. The session lasts approximately 2 hours and takes place fortnightly on Thursdays afternoons at 2pm at the North Norfolk Macmillan Centre. The one of session aims to explore the feelings and coping strategies of loss whilst creating a safe environment for sharing and discussion. Attendees are encouraged to share what they are comfortable with. Please find a leaflet attached for more information.

Any questions or to book a place on the Support Group or HOPE course please contact the North Norfolk Macmillan Support Centre on 01603 641559 or email us at cromermacinfocentre@nnuh.nhs.uk.
